OVERFISHING, A GLOBAL PROBLEM TO TAKE INTO ACCOUNT

The purpose of this report is to analyze the current situation of the wild sea in relation to the continued and rising exploitation by the human being as well as the unfortunate future that is approaching if we remain impassive.

What is really happening?

A great deal of studies and researches confirm that two serious problems are arising, mainly because our oceans are suffering a thoughtless exploitation and collapse.Firstly, species, as well as entire ecosystems are being lost. As a result, the overall ecological unity of our oceans are under stress and at risk of collapse.
Secondly, we are in risk of losing a valuable food source many depend upon for social, economical or dietary reasons.

Why does it
happen?
The ocean as a source of natural wealth has existed for a long time. However, it is being exhausted not only as a consequence of  terrible methods of fishing but also because the large amount of fishing boats which daily ply the seas in order to get the best result. Hand made methods have being replaced with the highest technology.  As a consequence, the sea species can´t scape from the selfish human being, who, constantly, without resting, is breaking the natural balance necessary for the whatever living thing.

  Possible Solutions

To sum up, we are indebted to the oceans, to  nature in general. It would be necessary a global plan where not only strict laws were considered, but also an awareness of the worldwide population as well as an education in the long term, which could prepare the citizens for a drastic change in their behaviour, specially in those areas which economically  depend directly on  fishing.

ABOUT A DEVELOPED MOTRIL

1970
Did you Know Motril 15 years ago? 30? And we consider insufficiently modified, mainly because it could be an idealistic place for tourism, and consequently, all the economical troubles would be solved. From my point of view,  not only has Motril changed very much but also,  lots of rash decisions have been made considered by  the politician in order to create an “important city” causing important environmental disasters .
To begin with, what about the urbanization located in the south-west of our town?  Being in the heart of economic growth, a luxury space for wealthy and foreign people was built in order to give to Motril that atmosphere of modernity and richness. What is the cost of this empty storage of concrete, which nowadays are occupied during the summer with difficulty? you would have to hear from the workers who made the buildings….all kind of birds, animals, had their habitat in that area. How could we allow it?
Secondly, continuing on the coast, we have forgotten “ La playa de las Azucenas”; to be honest I ´ll never forget, but under no circumstances, could my children, for instance, enjoy the sound of its waves as well as gazing the landscape which has been drastically impoverished.
But it´s better for Motril and their population (Politician would make up…) to overcome the sea with concrete and to build  a bigger port. Nowadays we are twinning with Melilla and also, we can look on the possibility of travelling to this city from our own harbour.
Thirdly, the wished motorway, that crosses the most important green area of Motril, “La Bullarenga” should be completed in short. To have a motorway, to save ten minutes to the time…, we have committed a crime. Furthermore, we will convert our crystalline beaches from crowded ones, what is more, with those kinds oh swimmers who don´t spend money on our hotels and restaurant.
On the other hand, we could go to Granada in a more easily and comfortable way and it is important for special occasions, for instance, in a situation of emergency.
All these things considered, as far as I am concerned, I would  like to add this singular sentence which summarise my position; ”we all want progress, but if you are on the wrong road, progress means doing an about-turn and walking back to the right road; in that case, the man who turns back soonest is the most progressive” (C.S. Lewis)

FRIENDS

I don´t know why my sight was fixed on that peculiar woman.

The question is that I couldn´t avoid peering at her and her way of moving with no control in a tiny space. What´s more, I couldn´t get out of my astonishment. But, what really puzzled me was that nobody belonging to the long queue that that morning covered the bank office, spotted her in the middle of that frenzied stupor.
I wouldn´t Know to say if she was a middle-aged or senior woman, if she was sad or glad, mainly because her eyes were covered with some old fashionable and gigantic glasses as well as a stripped silk scarf that in a strange way not only did it cover the face, but also her extremely small and disfigured head.
Suddenly, I couldn´t explain how it had happened that she changed her position. To be honest, I think it was the moment of my blinking when she burst in a chair five meters farther. Also, her appearance looked like significantly different; opened arms, crossed legs, while some words were muttered in a no identified language.
However, people that saw the same action which was beginning to frighten me , didn´t show any reaction. Most of them were too occupied with their mobiles, you know… .            But, in this scene, I didn´t dare to talk about the situation with anybody, because I began to reckon that I was the person who wasn´t noticing the reality wasn´t as it was being processed into my mind. Something was wrong, but in that precious moment I had doubt about everything, everybody.
So, something green and liquid began to get out from that wrinkled mouth at the same time as a rumble sound was overheard by our ears. In this moment  I fainted and after a while I remember myself surrounded by onlookers who drew a timid smile in the frightened faces.

The joke was too hard!
